During fall of 1996, the beginning of my freshman year, I was fulfilling one of my required courses by taking Intro to Philosophy. At first, it didn’t seem like an interesting subject, but my opinion soon shifted when I met Professor Anthony Celano. Not only did he lead lengthy and lively lunchtime discussions in the dining hall, but he also truly made you reconsider your position in any debate.

I’m not sure we ever knew his opinion on many topics because he would choose to argue the opposite side, just to encourage you to defend yourself. Professor Celano inspired us to think bigger, question more and to reframe how we saw our world. He didn’t conform, he didn’t abandon a position and he didn’t give up on trying to reach every single student in his classroom. He had a profound impact on me, far beyond my four years at Stonehill.
