A member of Stonehill’s first graduating class, Richard Lehan ’52 died on February 27, 2024. Lehan went on to become a leading scholar of American realism and naturalism. A published author, he was a longtime faculty member and chair of the English Department at the University of California, Los Angeles. Lehan remained engaged with Stonehill throughout his life and was a frequent visitor to campus. A recipient of Stonehill’s Outstanding Alumnus Award, an Honorary Doctor of Letters degree and the President’s Medal, Lehan served two six-year terms as a Trustee.
