Making the most of his Stonehill experience by building connections, learning key skills and embracing community
Ping. An email notification lit up Giovanni Dous’ screen—a message saying he’d been nominated to join the Student Alumni Association (SAA). Before he even knew much about the SAA, the words “networking opportunities” immediately caught his attention and prompted him to take the leap. “My goal throughout college has been to make as many connections as I possibly can,” he explained. “I understand the importance of networking.”
That single email opened the door to an experience that now defines much of Dous’ time at Stonehill. Through the SAA, the marketing and psychology major has honed key professional skills that will come in handy when he graduates in 2028. “I’ve strengthened my event planning, time management and communication skills, which are all valuable to me in my areas of study. I’ve learned a lot about organizing and promoting events while also accommodating others,” he said.
The networking opportunities with alumni Dous first hoped for have proven plentiful, blossoming into meaningful connections he won’t soon forget. “I met an alum who happened to be from the same town as me, and we bonded over that,” he recalled. “I also reconnected with a former student I knew well from my freshman year, but lost touch with when he graduated. It’s reassuring to know that I can reach out to them for guidance or advice whenever I need it.”
Beyond the SAA, Dous’ impact extends across the Hill. As a resident assistant, orientation leader and member of DECA and the Black Student Union, he’s developed into a leader who values empathy, adaptability and community. “Looking ahead, I hope to continue contributing to the SAA’s growth by being an active and reliable member,” he said. “I want to help strengthen our Stonehill community on and off campus.”
And to think—it all started with a single ping.
