Scope of Built to Rise

Built to Rise focuses on three priorities: constructing the Tom & Kathleen Bogan Arena, establishing an enhanced Athletic Fields Complex, and sustaining support for annual athletic operations and endowment resources. Together, these investments ensure that Stonehill’s facilities and programs match the talent, ambition and expectations of Division I competition while supporting long-term excellence.

Built to Rise advances Stonehill 2030: Building Together, the College’s five-year strategic plan, by enhancing the student experience, strengthening recruitment and enrollment, and elevating Stonehill’s national visibility as a Division I institution. The campaign also creates dynamic spaces that foster community, institutional spirit and experiential learning opportunities for students across disciplines.

The Built to Rise facilities will also support club and recreational sports, creating expanded opportunities for student participation, leadership and wellness.

Beyond athletics, the facilities are designed to serve as active learning labs for students across multiple academic disciplines, including sport management, exercise science, communication, digital media production, business and event management. Students will gain hands-on experience, directly connecting classroom learning with real-world application.

Additionally, these facilities will also create opportunities for broader recreation for our campus and community, including concerts and events. Stonehill deeply values its relationship with its neighbors and surrounding communities. While the College’s Division I and club ice hockey and basketball programs will be Bogan Arena’s primary tenants and the Athletic Fields Complex will be home to our baseball and softball teams, we envision opportunities for surrounding towns, schools and leagues to host select events in these facilities.

Bogan Arena is currently projected to begin construction in spring 2027, with an anticipated opening in fall 2028.

Plans for the Athletic Fields Complex will be announced as fundraising milestones are reached.

A Game Changer for Ice Hockey and Basketball

The Tom & Kathleen Bogan Arena is named in recognition of Stonehill Trustee Thomas  Bogan ’72 and his wife, Kathleen Bogan. In May 2025, the Bogans made a generous $15 million gift—the largest in Stonehill College history—to launch the fundraising campaign for the ice hockey and basketball arena.

The arena will include a basketball center and a dedicated ice hockey rink. Each venue will accommodate approximately 2,250 to 2,500 fans, providing an exciting gameday atmosphere while supporting year-round use.

Planned features include modern locker rooms and training spaces, team meeting rooms and coaches’ offices, premium and accessible seating options, enhanced concessions, as well as advanced media and broadcast infrastructure.

Bogan Arena will be constructed on the west side of campus across Washington Street, expanding Stonehill’s footprint while remaining closely connected to the main campus.

Elevating the Athletic Fields Experience

The Athletic Fields Complex will include new baseball and softball fields made of turf, enhanced lighting, upgraded dugouts and bullpens and a modern press box, along with improved fan areas and expanded gameday infrastructure. The project also features a new fieldhouse with locker rooms, equipment storage, concessions and restrooms, as well as the Chip Salyards ’88 Memorial Pavilion, a multiuse gathering and event space designed for fans, families and alumni.

The Athletic Fields Complex will be located adjacent to W.B. Mason Stadium.

Skyhawks Soaring

Stonehill formally began its reclassification process to become a Division I institution in July 2022 and elected to take an expedited three-year track to achieve full Division I memberships status. In June 2025, the College was granted final approval by the NCAA to become a full member of the NEC and NCAA Division I. Student-athletes are now eligible to compete in all NCAA Division I championships.
