Many Computer Science
Majors choose to do an internship during the junior or
senior year. Typically a student will work at a local company like
General Dynamics or Motorola for 8-16 hours per week.
Students not only gain "real world" experience but also
receive academic credit. .
Recently, seniors Rob Briar and
Mat Lepore worked at Heartlab Inc, a company which produces
medical software. Rob and Matt were part of a
professional team formed to build a database driven web site. In
his final internship report Matt wrote: "... this
internship and this project have been a great learning experience
for me. Not only did I learn how to work as a team member on this
project, but I was actually one of the leaders. ... I
am very anxious to see the release of this project because I have
worked on it from the planning stage and I am very proud of it.

For Scott Lemonde an
internship at Motorola Inc proved to be a worthwhile
and rewarding experience. Scott's duties included software
testing and some development responsibilities.Scott wrote:
"One of the more exciting experiences I have had during my
internship was the opportunity to write code for a cable
modem diagnostic application called StormWatch. Working at
Motorola has provided me with valuable experience while at the
same time giving me a chance to work with new technology. "
Scott was hired by Motorola after graduation.
Mike
Shevory wrote " my internship at Monster.Com
helped me to understand what I really want to do when I graduate
-- become a software engineer. .I'd like to develop software
that somehow helps people and makes a difference.
