Abe is an accomplished professor of engineering who has been in academia for over 30 years. He retired as a Full Professor from Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) in Troy, NY, where he developed several new programs and certificates, including the programs of Photonics Technology and Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology.

Abe is pursuing a second teaching career at the prestigious Colleges of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE), in Albany, NY, in the State University of New York Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) Department, teaching electronics, semiconductor manufacturing, nanotechnology and related courses.

In 2010 Abe – as a Principal Investigator (PI) - was awarded a $3 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to develop the Northeast Technological Education Center (NEATEC) for semiconductor and nanotechnology education, serving the states of New York and Western New England. NEATEC has been renewed for ten years with total funding of over $10 million.

More recently, in 2019, a three-year $6 million grant from NSF was awarded to SUNY Poly. Abe is a Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI). The project, titled Development and Implementation of a Semiconductor Workforce Certificate Program based on a Unified Advanced Manufacturing Competency Model, will develop and pilot an industry- wide Semiconductor Workforce Certification Program based on an innovative Unified Competency Model.

Abe has presented many papers in several national and international conferences in topics including electronics, semiconductor manufacturing, nanotechnology and others.
