Stonehill's L.I.G.H.T. Community Engagement Program

As Stonehill's largest, student-run community service program, the L.I.G.H.T. Program provides opportunities for students to learn from, foster relationships with, journey alongside, and advocate for members of our local community. Partnered with over 40 local organizations in many different social justice areas, students learn, foster relationships, and advocate alongside members of our community. Inspired by the enduring values of a Holy Cross Education, the L.I.G.H.T. Program offers the Stonehill Community opportunities for meaningful service experiences that challenge and teach them to be agents of social change committed to the creation of a just and compassionate world.

What Does L.I.G.H.T. Stand For?

Learning meaningfully: We recognize our neighbors as the experts of their experiences, so we listen to their stories and respect  their agency and authority.

Intentionally offering: Using our unique gifts and talents, we serve from a place of reflection and purpose, knowing that serving is an opportunity to discover our calling.

Growing together: We know we stand to gain much from those we encounter as we journey alongside those on the margins.

Helping selflessly: Placing the needs of our community partners at the heart of our mission, we aim to engage in ways that are impactful.

Turning faith outward: Rooted in the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, we seek to experience the divine as we embody love in action.

Our Mission:

Leadership: Students become passionate leaders by raising awareness about social justice and actively contributing to positive social change.

Community: Students are empathetic towards vulnerable communities to create a more diverse, inclusive, and peaceful society.

Faith: Students cultivate relationships with others and themselves through spirituality, knowledge, and the universal recognition of human dignity.

Justice: Students grow to understand the roots of social injustice and to challenge systemic power imbalances, so students and their neighbors can more equally stand with each other in solidarity.

Who organizes the L.I.G.H.T. Program?

The Campus Minister for Community Engagement, Brittany Lorgeree, works with student interns and a team of student L.I.G.H.T. Leaders, to execute the program. Brittany meets with the team regularly throughout the year to ensure that the program runs smoothly and to stay updated and informed on our various volunteer sites. She also meets with our campus partners to discuss the program and collaborate on how to engage the community even more. Contact Brittany with any questions about the program!

Community Partners:

If you are a community partner looking for volunteers for an upcoming opportunity, please email us for a volunteer form. Local organizations seeking a new partnership can also contact Brittany to arrange a meeting.
