Co-ops last over the course of two semesters, or 6 months.  They are full-time and many are paid, particularly those in the fields of science, operations and technology.  Students generally have more responsibility and receive more training then they would to participate in a 3-month internship.  Some co-op programs are rotational.

Who can participate:

Juniors and Seniors with a GPA of 3.0 or above (exact criteria may be flexible and can be determined by the student’s academic department)

When does the program run?

Summer to Fall Co-Op (July – December): Student earns no-credit or 3 credits in the summer, but earns 9 credits for work in the fall semester (through the Stonehill in the City program).  Applications for fall semester Stonehill in the City programs are due in Handshake March of the spring semester.

Spring to Summer Co-op (January – June): Student earns 9 credits for work in the spring (through the Stonehill in the City program), and earns no credit or 3 credits for work in the summer.Applications for spring Stonehill in the City programs are due in Handshake in late September.

*Students may be able to complete fall-spring co-ops at the discretion of their academic departments

Credit Breakdown (15 credits in total):

9 credits – 32-40 hours of work/week
3 credits – Academic work in partnership with the student’s faculty moderator
3 credits – Course of the student’s choice taken at Stonehill (or at another institution if the student is not working locally)

Housing:

Students will live in on campus housing for local opportunities. With approval, students will have the ability to live at home or identify alternate housing.  If a student is participating in a co-op over the summer, they may apply for summer housing at Stonehill.*
*Note that on-campus housing is not available for the summer of 2020.

Searching and Applying for Co-ops:

At any given time, hundreds of Co-op opportunities can be found in Handshake.  In addition, students can utilize a number of other job boards and company pages.  A list of search sites by career field and geographic location can be found here. The Career Development Center is happy to assist students in their search and they are highly encouraged to schedule an appointment through Handshake at least 6 months ahead of a start date, to discuss the process with an advisor.
