Office of the President Header

Dear Members of the Stonehill Community,

Earlier today, the College, in conjunction with the Northeast-10 Conference and in the interests of health and safety, decided to suspend all varsity athletic competition, as well as all club sports until December 31, 2020.

As with so much during this uncertain period in our lives and the life of our College, this was a most difficult decision. It was made for the long-term good of our students on the fields and courts of play, the fans, and the communities in which our College and our competing colleges live. Please know that the Northeast-10 Conference diligently researched all options before making the decision to suspend the season, as we consulted with medical experts and followed their guidance in making this decision.

For our student athletes, their families, and their coaches, the postponement of a season is truly heartbreaking, and I am sorry for this disappointment.

Athletics are critical to educating the whole person, and I know that our student athletes have trained so hard and developed such team spirit, all the while balancing academics, internships, and other leadership roles on campus. I deeply appreciate their ongoing commitment, perseverance, and sacrifice, which I trust will pave the way to better days ahead.

I have always shared our community’s excitement around and dedication to Skyhawk sports, and please know of my continued support for our athletic program at the College, and most especially our student athletes.

I am grateful for your continued resiliency and spirit. I look forward to seeing you all when we gather again.

Sincerely in Holy Cross,
Fr. John signature
