Seniors who have been longtime volunteers with Best Buddies working to end the isolation of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, recently said goodbye to their mentees from the House of Possibilities (HOPe). And, they did in style by inviting their buddies, some of whom they have known over four years at Stonehill, to a fun ice cream social in the Roche Dining Commons.
Reflecting on how our students partner to create a more just and compassionate world, the Executive Director of the House of Possibilities Katie Terino noted:
“Each year, close to 50 Stonehill students spend time volunteering at HOPe throughout the week, with upwards of 30 students coming on Friday afternoons to facilitate arts & crafts, engage in conversation, and ultimately create friendships and memories with HOPe’s members. Many of our Stonehill Buddies enter the program as freshman and stay on through their senior year. It has been a mutually beneficial experience, with the lives of our members and the lives of the Best Buddies greatly enriched. With our deepest gratitude, we recognize our Stonehill Best Buddies for their commitment to service at HOPe.”
