2019 W.B. Mason Student Leadership Forum

February 22, 2019

Rising through the company to become CEO & President, Tom Folliard helped to transform CarMax into America’s largest used-car retailer, a Fortune 500 company and one of the 100 best companies to work for. On a recent visit to campus, he shared his founding business principles with close to 100 Stonehill student leaders at the annual W.B. Mason Student Leadership Forum.

Those principles include transparent pricing, no haggling, low pressure sale environment, money back guarantees, real selection, and a supportive company culture for employees, especially in terms of diversity, LGBTQ and millennials.

Although not an alumnus, Folliard grew up in Easton and has strong ties to Stonehill. His father, also Tom, was a legendary head coach of our Men’s Basketball team and Director of Athletics in the 70s and 80s. At the W.B. Mason event, he explored the realities and requirements of leadership and engaged the students in a wide-ranging question and answer exchange.
