While Micah Christian ’06 and his group Sons of Serendip didn’t take the top prize on America’s Got Talent last week, the group’s fourth place finish reflected a stellar series of performances, as they surpassed thousands of acts to reach the final. Judge Mel B told the group “Just know you now have a platform to do whatever you want. Millions of people have tuned in and watched you week in and week out.”
During the live finale, the group had the opportunity to perform with the band Train. Sons of Serendip put their soulful twist on their hit "Drops of Jupiter," which can be viewed below.
Stonehill voters backed Christian throughout the contest and many members of the Stonehill community attended a public viewing party for the finale on Wednesday, September 17th at Grace Church in Avon, Mass, The gathering was organized by Christian’s family and friends. "I just want to thank the Stonehill Community for all (their) efforts in helping to support Micah and Sons of Serendip along their journey on America’s Got Talent. They are certainly proud of their accomplishment of coming in fourth place and are grateful to everyone who helped them to reach such success," said Christian's wife, Jocelyn (Vierra) Christian '08, who helped keep the College up-to-date throughout the competition.
While this season of America's Got Talent may be done and dusted, the journey is only just beginning for Christian and the group. On September 26th and 27th, Sons of Serendip will be performing at the Axis Theatre at Planet Hollywood in Vegas with the show's other finalists. From there, the group hopes to tour as well as record their own album.
