For many first-year students, this is their first time experiencing fall on campus, and they may be a long way from home. Some students may be homesick, missing out on what they did at home for the last 18 years. Here are 10 things to do around Stonehill to try to make you feel back at home.

1. Langwater Farm.

If you are missing pumpkins, hayrides, or fresh apple cider and apple cider donuts, you can find it all right down the street from Stonehill at Langwater. On weekends, you can watch them make homemade apple cider donuts and buy them warm and fresh.

2. C N Smith Farm.

One of the most iconic things to do in the fall is go apple picking, and right over in East Bridgewater you can find the perfect place to go with friends. They usually stay open for apple picking through Columbus Day or mid-October depending on conditions. They also have farm animals, fresh apple cider donuts, etc. at their farm stand.

3. Borderland State Park.

The changing colors on the trees and crisp air makes Borderland the perfect place to go hiking with friends and enjoy the last bit of nature before a New England winter. This park also features trails for hiking, biking, or horseback riding, fishing, and boating in the pond, and facilities for tennis and disc golf, on top of available tours of their historic mansion. Just bring bug spray as a precaution.

4. Carve Pumpkins.

Here’s something you don’t even need to leave campus to do. Drop by Langwater or any other pumpkin patch and puck up the perfect Jack-O-Lantern pumpkin, stop by CVS or the Dollar Store and pick up a pumpkin carving kit, and sit outside your dorm with friends and carve the perfect Halloween pumpkin. Don’t forget to roast the pumpkin seeds!

5. Look into Local Festivals.

This time of the year is always perfect for local festivals, as some have already passed, more are always on the horizon. There are Harvest Fairs in Easton and surrounding towns throughout the fall, along with fall festivals and other fall related fun! Get off campus and enjoy the community we are so lucky to have around us!

6 .Barrett’s Haunted Mansion.

If you are into a good scare and love Halloween, this haunted mansion may be perfect for you. Every weekend from October to the first weekend of November this mansion eight miles away will cure all your scare needs. Located in Abington two towns over from Easton.

7. Salem, Massachusetts.

If you and your friends are looking for a perfect fall weekend drive, drive right up to Salem to enjoy the witchy history and amazing fall decorations before it’s too late! They have events and festivals all throughout the fall, which is the towns specialty so you surely will not be disappointed. Also enjoy the beautiful fall scenery on the hour drive to Salem. If you are interested, there is also a commuter rail that goes right into downtown if you don’t have a car or want to save gas money!

8. Attend a Football Game.

Some students may be missing out on Friday Night Lights at their high school sporting events, and a way to cure that is to grab some hot chocolate or apple cider, and head to Stonehill’s night games for football, soccer or any other fall sporting event. Cuddle up on the bleachers with a blanket and friends and create new fall traditions without having to leave campus!

9. Shovel Town Brewery.

One of the best places to grab food, and if you’re 21, a beer as well. It is a perfect fall feel inside, and they do trivia nights, open mic nights, etc. The amazing food is a plus as well. There are also other breweries around Stonehill that makes the perfect fall destination for 21 plus students! Shovel Town is located in North Easton, five minutes away from campus.

10. Go to the Halloween Dance.

Stonehill has an annual Halloween dance, and it is the perfect time to feel like a kid again and dress up with all of your friends. Whether that be matching costumes or just going in a group with all different costumes it will be a blast!  Check emails for when wristbands go on sale and get started with planning the perfect costume!
