Monday Morning Update

December 10, 2018

EMERGING TECHNOLOGY: Within two years, thanks to a $570,000 federal grant, Stonehill will launch a technician-training program in integrated photonics, a technology expected to revolutionize data storage and transfer—similar to how integrated circuits ushered in the internet age. Part of a collaboration that brings together industry, government and higher education, the innovative work-learn program can help southeastern Massachusetts become an integrated photonics hub. Get the full story here.

ETHICAL DILEMMA: Stonehill employee and student in our Integrated Marketing Communication master’s program, Melinda Rios recently won an Ethics Essay Challenge hosted by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Boston. Rios received the prestigious award for explaining how she would respond if she were a member of a PR team whose account manager overpromised to win a contract. Read her essay here.

NOVEMBER CONSTRUCTION: How is the Meehan School of Business building coming along? We've put together a new time-lapse. See the entire month of November's construction in one minute. Check it out here.

ZEN TRAIL: Hiking can be a kind of spiritual pilgrimage, according to Professor Chris Ives, a scholar of ethics in Zen Buddhism and Buddhist approaches to nature and environmental issues. In his new book, Ives explores how hiking can calm our minds, enhance our sense of wonder and deepen our connection to nature. We have eight free copies of Zen on the Trail. To win email us.

JUNIOR AMBASSADORS: Over the years, 10 alumnae have kept in touch as their families grew, always connecting at Christmas. Recently, seven of them made the annual party with 15 of their children. Wearing their Stonehill tee-shirts, they are proud junior ambassadors of the College! See a hi-res version here.
