Dr. Farooq’s talk will be focused on meeting the needs of her students at Georgia Tech, and the ways in which she works to highlight issues of race and justice in the classroom, with a focus on history, agency, collaboration, and positive change

Dr. Farooq’s talk will be focused on the opportunities and challenges of aligning her research and pedagogy to 
meet the needs of her students at Georgia Tech, and the ways in which she works to highlight issues of race and 
justice in the classroom, with a focus on history, agency, collaboration, and positive change for all. Dr. Farooq is an 
Associate Professor of American Studies in the School of Literature, Media, and Communications at the Georgia 
Institute of Technology. She holds an A.B. in English from Dartmouth College, a joint M.A. in English and Women’s 
Studies from Brandeis University, and a PhD in English from Duke University. Her research moves between literary 
studies, American and Atlantic Studies, critical race theory, and cultural studies of science and ethnography.
