In order to help workers balance work and family roles, many companies have focused on providing flexible work schedules. Current research and practice has focused on white collar salaried workers even though over half of all U.S. workers are paid at an hourly rate. For these hourly workers, predictability relating to work schedules seems to be more important than flexibility. This research explores workplace predictability and the emerging legislature around this issue and the potential impact on work-family issues.
