Interdisciplinary Studies Internships & Opportunities

The nature of Interdisciplinary Studies dictates that students’ learning experiences outside the classroom will be widely varied.

Research Opportunities

Stonehill Undergraduate Research Experience (S.U.R.E.)

S.U.R.E. is an opportunity for students who have completed their first year at Stonehill to perform full-time, high-quality research over the summer months under the guidance of an expert faculty researcher. A student in the S.U.R.E. program spends 8-10 weeks of the summer collaborating with a professor - and sometimes other students - on an original research project that fits into the faculty member’s overall research program.

The experience includes postgraduate career seminars, program-wide outings, weekly lunches, and a student poster session in the fall. S.U.R.E. students generally live on campus and receive a stipend for their summer work.

  • Interdisciplinary Studies majors Hailey Chalhoub ’13 and Domenique Ciavattone ’13 worked with Christopher Wetzel, assistant professor of Sociology on “Students in Action: The Changing Forms and Focus of Engagement in an Era of Globalization.” In recent years, researchers have argued that increased educational demands and an unstable job market have resulted in a decline in student activism.
“Being an Interdisciplinary Studies major allowed me to take a diverse group of classes in the Biology, Chemistry, Psychology and Health Care Administration departments. This provided me with a well rounded education which helped me further my education in graduate school and has impacted my career.”
Alison Robbins ’07, Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant
