The speech-language pathology (SLP) minor at Stonehill College prepares students for graduate school in communication science disorders, speech-language pathology, and audiology.
Speech-language pathologists work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults. Students who wish to pursue careers in SLP must attend a graduate program certified by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
Stonehill’s minor in speech-language pathology stands out from similar programs in that it provides all of the curricular requirements necessary for acceptance into prestigious graduate programs while allowing students the ability to pursue a major course of study aligned with their interests and passions.
Stonehill students pursuing a career in speech-language pathology have gained valuable experience through internships and clinical experiences with a variety of ASHA-certified speech pathologists, audiologists, and communication disorder specialists and practitioners close to the Stonehill campus.
Graduate School/Professional Studies
Stonehill students pursuing a career in speech-language pathology have been accepted into graduate programs in the field at Northeastern University, the University of North Carolina, Bridgewater State University, Boston University, and Emerson College.
Stonehill students pursuing SLP have organized a Speech-Language Pathology Club to provide academic, informational and social support to students looking to study SLP. This club has been certified as a NSSHLA (National Student Speech- Language-Hearing Association) chapter.
In addition, Stonehill’s Career Development Center offers extensive assistance to students seeking employment and pursuing advanced studies in this field. By completing internships and utilizing mentors, students are empowered to build lifelong career management skills. Stonehill’s new career management system, Handshake, connects students with an extensive network of jobs, internships and mentors.
