Pass/Fail Option
To encourage students to broaden their intellectual interests, Juniors and Seniors are permitted to employ a Pass-Fail option in one course each semester. Students who “pass” the course will receive a “P” with no grade-points figured into the cumulative average. A Failing grade “F” will be counted the same way as any other failure in the cumulative average.
The Pass-Fail option can only be used in a course which is a free elective and which is taken in a field outside the student’s major or minor concentration.
Any student who has completed the Foreign Language requirement may elect the Pass-Fail option in one or two additional Foreign Language classes, even if it exceeds the maximum number of Pass-Fail courses allowed.
Students must fill out the Pass-Fail option form in the Registrar’s Office by the deadline noted on the Academic Calendar. Once the Pass-Fail option has been exercised, it cannot be retracted.
