Before coming to Stonehill, Professor Aalto taught at UMass/Amherst, the University of Cincinnati, and Bridgewater State College. She also worked as a counselor at the University of California at Berkeley Counseling Center.

She served as the Membership Chair, and Secretary of the International Council of Psychologists, and on the Steering Committee of the New England Psychological Association. She began teaching at Stonehill in 1968.

Professor Aalto’s major interests include the history of Psychology and psychological issues related to aging.

Professor Aalto retired in 1995 and was awarded "emerita" status at that time. After retiring she continued to serve the department by supervising internships.
