Professor Hurley came to Stonehill in 1967 to start the Department of Psychology. He instituted the Psychology Major at Stonehill in the 1972-1973 academic year.

He currently is a Licensed Psychologist and holds appointments in the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

His research interests are in the area of anxiety disorders. He was the recipient of the 2003-2004 Hegarty Award for Excellence in Teaching.
