Our Commitment to Diversity
Stonehill College is committed to diversity, equality, social justice, and the promotion of peace. We acknowledge that diversity is essential in all aspects of our lives, including but not limited to an environment that embraces differences while respecting our shared responsibility to "think, act, and lead with courage toward the creation of a more just and compassionate world."
Stonehill celebrates and encourages opinions of various cultural and religious perspectives. Diversity is "integral to the acquisition of personal and intellectual breadth" and therefore seeks to nurture a culture where differences of ideas are openly shared. Supporting a diverse environment is the responsibility of everyone at the college. Therefore, we have a designed a number of initiatives to foster dialogue and offer support to students, faculty, administrators and staff.
Admissions Initiatives
Stonehill actively seeks to invite students of diverse backgrounds to apply to the College. We offer a number of opportunities for students from underrepresented groups to visit the college, meet with Admissions staff, and network with our current students. We also work with several regional schools from Boston, Brockton, Randolph, Stoughton, and Quincy as well as a number of schools in New York City, to provide overnight experiences at the college.
For accepted students, Stonehill also offers overnight programs designed for students from underrepresented groups to acclimate to the Stonehill Community and experience the environment first hand.
Student Initiatives
Students learn and engage in diversity at Stonehill though participation in several affinity organizations. Students are active in clubs such as Diversity on Campus, Stonehill Asian American Society, the Spanish Club, and the ALANA Brothers and Sisters Leadership Program as a way to connect to their heritage or with students from a similar experience.
The Office of Intercultural Affairs serves as a resource, support system, and educational advocate for students looking to learn more about diversity or ways to get involved. Stonehill diversity organizations are welcoming places for individuals of all backgrounds, faiths, and cultures.
Administrative Initiatives
The Diversity Networking Group is an informal group of faculty, staff, and administrators who discuss diversity related events and topics relevant to their own personal experiences. They serve as a resource to the professional community at Stonehill as well as mentors to the student community.
The Inclusive Excellence Grant is an internal opportunity available to faculty, staff, and administrators who are interested in diversifying programming and educational opportunities at Stonehill. Individuals and groups submit proposals for events, conferences, programs, or speakers that they believe support diversity initiatives at the College. The Inclusive Excellence Grant reinforces our belief that diversity is the responsibility of the entire college.
