Joyce M. Collins received her A.B in Spanish (Peninsular literature) from Emmanuel College, Boston, Massachusetts and her M.A. (Peninsular literature and Latin American literature) from Middlebury College and its program at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She pursued additional graduate study in Peninsular literature, Latin American literature and Spanish Culture and Civilization at Boston College, Boston University, at various universities outside of Massachusetts, as well as in Spain and in Mexico.

She was instrumental in introducing and implementing the Spanish major at Stonehill College during the years when there were only two professors of Spanish in the language department. In addition, professor Collins enjoys teaching and has taught all levels of Spanish throughout her professional career at Stonehill (Elementary, Intermediate, Advanced).
