Monday Morning Update
December 17, 2012
Presidential Search: On Friday, the Presidential Search Committee met on campus to begin reviewing a pool of resumes from Holy Cross priests who applied to become the tenth president of the College. Noting the strong pool of candidates, Committee Chair Bill Devin '60 explained, "Our task now is to study their resumes closely and to select finalists with an eye towards interviews in January." Stress Relief: Before exam week started on Friday, hundreds of students had a pet therapy stress break in the Sports Complex where five Papillon puppies served up love and affection. In addition to puppy petting, the Health & Wellness Office offered free yoga, cardio and Zumba classes, aromatherapy, chair massages and a smoothie give away. To see the puppies, visit here.
Top Men: For months, they practiced dancing, singing, talent routines and modeling in preparation for the annual Mr. Stonehill contest. Two Saturdays ago, the ten male students stepped to the stage to compete for the coveted crown, which went to graphic design major Dave Girvan '13. But, when the event program proclaims, May the Public Embarrassment Be Ever In Your Favor, you know they took risks. To see the guys in action, visit our Mr. Stonehill Snapshot.
Biology Research: Last week, biology majors Erica Carbone '13 and Jamie Lenz '13 successfully defended their honors thesis research. Carbone evaluated how diving and environmental stressors might influence the immune function of beluga whales. Lenz compared the life history traits of two geographically separated populations of the semi-invasive pest species, the Imported Willow Leaf Beetle. Graduating a semester early, they are now focusing on the future with Carbone ultimately wanting to study marine ecology & conservation while Lenz, who is applying for a Fulbright, wants to study conservation & biodiversity.
Skate Date: Break out your skates as the May Ice Rink is hosting six free rink dates for members of the Stonehill community including alumni, their families and Easton residents. The May Rink Skate Dates are between noon and 4 p.m. on December 27, 28 & 29 and on January 5, 12 & February 23 (Alumni Day). No registration required. Santa's Visit: Yes, he was in Donahue Hall after a recent holiday concert by the College Chamber Orchestra and the Concert Band. Alumni children and grandchildren flocked to have their pictures taken with Santa and to give him their Christmas lists. To see the photos, visit our Santa Snapshot.
Christmas Eve Mass: Our Christmas Eve Mass will be celebrated in the Chapel of Mary at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 24 with President Mark Cregan, C.S.C. presiding. Campus Ministry organizes a beautiful ceremony, which attracts many local alumni, neighbors and other members of the community.
