Mark Mulligan ’88 Receives 2012 Alumni Service Award
November 20, 2012
Past President of the Alumni Council Mark Mulligan '88 (pictured left with Vice President for Advancement Francis X. Dillon '70) received the 2012 Alumni Service Award at the Alumni Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on Sunday, November 18. Over the past 12 years, Mulligan has served an integral role on many committees and boards, including the Alumni Council and its executive, academic and athletic committees.
As president of the Alumni Council from 2008-2010, he forged creative partnerships with departments across campus as well as with the student body at Stonehill and uncovered new opportunities for fellow graduates during critical economic times.
"Mark's sense of strategy and tactics, along with his meticulous approach to organization and planning, really helped to elevate the Alumni Council's sense of its own mission and capabilities. Under his leadership, the Alumni Council operated at a high level and succeeded in connecting effectively with so many other areas of College life," explained Director of Alumni Affairs Anne (Pollick) Sant '88.
"I am amazed at the dedication and service to Stonehill by those that have previously received this award and I am humbled to be recognized along with them," said Mulligan upon accepting the award. "I am also proud and grateful to be here tonight with all of you, who are here because of your service to Stonehill. I thank you and applaud you."
As Chair of the Alumni Council's Academic Committee in 2007, Mulligan was instrumental in the launch of the Alumni Travel Program. Now in its sixth year, the program gives alumni the opportunity to explore the world with Stonehill faculty who provide historical and cultural insights along the way.
He continues to serve his alma mater in several ways. Recently, he was elected to serve as an alumni representative on the Board of Fellows, again generously lending his time and expertise.
Mulligan is a criminal tax attorney with the Internal Revenue Service in Boston.
The Alumni Service Award is presented annually by the Alumni Council to recognize graduates who have worked for the betterment of the College and the Alumni Association. In conjunction with the award, the Office of Alumni Affairs holds the Alumni Volunteer Appreciation Dinner each November.
"I awake everyday with devout thanks for all alumni volunteers, both old and new for it is no secret that without our dedicated and talented volunteers, we would not be able to accomplish all that we do on behalf of Stonehil, its students and its alumni body," said Sant in her remarks at Sunday's dinner.
Following the dinner, Alumni Chaplain Rev. Robert Wiseman, C.S.C. celebrated the annual Alumni Mass of Thanksgiving in the Chapel of Mary. Close to 1,000 alumni sent Fr. Wiseman intention cards, which he prayed over at the Mass.
