Cable TV FAQs
What improvements have been made to Hillflicks on Stonehill Channel 9?
A new digital media server was installed to improve the picture and sound quality of HillFlicks movies. The new media player also provides information about the next movie when none is currently showing. The Office of Student Activities surveys students each month to choose about 8 movies and the new movies begin showing on the first day of the next month, when students are on campus. Hillflicks web pages are also updated monthly to include the movie posters with links to the IMDB site for the movie details along with the schedule by movie and by date.
Where is the channel guide?
The current cable system is an analog system distributed without individual cable boxes, so it does not contain an online channel guide. A list of the cable channels is provided with the cable TV web pages and includes links to each channel's network web site.
Is there another way to find channel information online?
TV Guide's TV listings and Comcast's Xfinity TV Listings offer a close approximation of our channel list if you enter 02357 for location, Comcast as provider for TV Guide, and Raynham/Easton Standard Cable. Our channel lineup is unique to Stonehill; however, these listings are the same for the majority of the Stonehill channels.
Why is the channel selection different in my room?
The channel lineup across campus is the same. It is important to review the setup instructions to ensure that your TV is configured with program source set to Cable and the Analog HRC option selected. Once this has been done the TV needs to scan for available channels. If you have an older TV, you may have to manually input channels. TVs vary so you may need to refer to your TV instructions which should be available online.
How do I access the available HD channels?
The process detailed above to scan for available channels on a HD ready TV should detect the HD channels.
What should I do if the sound or picture quality is not good?
The first step in troubleshooting is to review the setup instructions for assistance in checking the cable connection to the TV and the wall outlet. Additionally, you should make sure the correct source (Cable) and option (Analog HRC) are selected as detailed in the instructions. You may also want to check with others in your hallway or building to see if they are experiencing the same problem. Please report persistent problems to the IT Help Desk at helpdesk@stonehill.edu . We will coordinate a service call to Comcast to try to resolve the issue.
Can I connect my TV to the internet?
TVs may be connected to the Stonehill network, but must be registered manually at this time. Please contact the IT Help Desk at helpdesk@stonehill.edu with your request and TV make and model.
Can we get my favorite channel, more HD channels, or an option to add premium channels and On Demand?
Cable services are provided to Stonehill in bulk and not as an individual subscription as you may have at home. Additionally, the current service is analog and doesn't support some new features. Comcast is testing new options like digital cable and On Demand features with a few local universities this fall. We will evaluate what Comcast offers based on the test results, cost and student demand based on survey data and discussions with advisory groups and SGA.
