Overview
Since 1985, more than 700 Stonehill students have grown and matured, intellectually and personally, as a result of their participation in the International Internship Program. International Internships are offered via Stonehill's Office of International Programs.
- Students typically intern in the second semester of the junior year or first semester of the senior year.
- Students intern for 36 hours per week in Paris and Madrid, 32 hours/week in Dublin, and 20 hours/week in London.
- Interns earn a full semester of course credits. (15 credits)
- If working in an English-speaking environment, interns take academic courses to enrich their intercultural learning.
Benefits
This type of experiential learning creates an appreciation for the challenge of a professional career, assists the student in the transition between four years of higher education and the work environment, helps to build self-confidence and interpersonal competence, and prepares the student better for a senior capstone experience in the student's major discipline. In addition, the international internship allows the student to live and work as a professional in another culture, and often immersed in another language.
In Combination with a Study Abroad Experience
Some study abroad programs also offer internships in replacement for one of the courses taken during the semester.
