Community Associate Program
In an effort to connect the curricular and co-curricular experiences within the residence community, the Community Associate program was developed. The program has been in existence since the 1993-1994 academic year and continues to have the goal of providing increased opportunity for students, faculty, staff and administrators to interact outside of the classroom.
It is the hope of the Residence Life Office that these interactions will happen inside the residence halls as well as out in the greater community at plays, musicals, lectures, community service and other special attractions. Providing faculty, staff and administrators the opportunity to get into the residence halls and interact with students in their environment is a key feature of the program. It also allows students to see their faculty and other staff members in a different light.
Each Resident Assistant selects a member of the faculty, staff or administration to act as their Community Associate. This person interacts most often with the RA's floor as well as participates with the building in activities planned for all of the residents. Community Associates are invited into the halls for programs at least 4 times during the year and act as a general resource for students.
Some examples of programs Community Associates have been involved in include community service, movie discussions, story telling, ice-cream socials, pre-registration programs, resume writing, etc. The residence hall community is bound to benefit from the Community Associate relationship and out-of-classroom learning will certainly be enhanced.
