Monday Morning Update
June 11, 2012
Athletic Excellence: Stonehill has won the Northeast-10 Conference Presidents' Cup for the third consecutive year. Overall, the College has captured the President's Cup four times. In addition, this is the eighth-straight year Stonehill has finished in the top three in the final standings. The Presidents' Cup signifies overall athletic excellence in the Northeast-10 Conference. Profile in Courage: Two and a half years ago, Norwood High School student Matt Brown, nephew of Women's Basketball Coach Trish Brown, was paralyzed from the chest down during a hockey game. A tenacious young man, Brown battled back and recently graduated, much to the delight of his proud family and his many friends at the College. A long time Skyhawk follower, he will now attend Stonehill in the fall.
Alumni Pioneers: When Reunion 2012 got underway on Friday, June 1, it marked 60 years to the day of Stonehill's first Commencement in 1952. Ever young at heart, 11 members of that pioneering class participated in practically all of this year's reunion events. For a Reunion recap, visit here.
Reunion Photos: Every picture tells a story and we have many photos from Reunion 2012, which saw 1,000 alumni, family and friends celebrate on campus. To see photos from Friday night's events, including the induction of the Class of 1952 in to the Pillar Society, visit here.
Saturday: We have two Snapshots of Saturday events. Our daytime Snapshot includes alumni renewing their marriage vows, making the best of the indoor BBQ, and exploring campus. To see it, visit here. Our last Snapshot focuses on the gala Reunion Celebration in Roche Dining Commons, which featured music, dancing, fine cuisine, and the most awesome chocolate fountain around. To see those photos, visit here.
Celtic Memories: The men's and women's basketball teams recently returned from Ireland where they played Irish teams and had a study abroad experience. Now working at Thomson Reuters in N.Y, Captain Sean Lowry '12 summarized the value of the trip with flair in his final blog post. To read it, visit here.
Summer Projects: Summer is one of the few times when the College can renovate and upgrade facilities. Among many such projects this year, we will be working on phase three of a five-year plan to remodel bathrooms in student residences in Commonwealth and Colonial Courts. We will also make upgrades and renovations to offices and hallways in Duffy Academic. In addition, an oil boiler in Boland Hall will be converted to gas.
Teeing Off: The Friends of Stonehill Athletics Golf Tournament will take place on Monday, June 23 at Pocasset Country Club. Supporting our 22 varsity sports, the tournament is selling out and there are only a few spots left, so call 508-565-1391 now. Sponsorships are still available. For information, visit here.
