Robert F. Rivers '86
Bob is Vice Chairman of Eastern Bank Corporation and President of Eastern Bank, the largest independent bank headquartered in Massachusetts with $7.6 billion in assets, where he is directly responsible for Commercial Banking and Wealth Management, as well as Operations and Technology. In addition, he is Chairman of Eastern Insurance Group, a wholly-owned agency subsidiary. In anticipation of taking this role on January 1, 2007, he joined Eastern as Vice Chairman and Chief Banking Officer in February, 2006.
Prior to joining Eastern, Bob was Executive Vice President for Retail Banking at the former Commercial Federal Bank in Omaha, Nebraska, with responsibility for retail, small business, investments, insurance and residential mortgage businesses across a seven-state, 200-branch franchise, as well as related product management and sales support functions.
From 1991 to 2005, Bob held a number of both staff and line leadership positions at M&T Bank, headquartered in Buffalo, New York, including State Sales Manager positions for the Business Banking Group in Pennsylvania and the New York metropolitan area. Previously, he was the Regional Sales Manager for M&T's 170-branch franchise across Pennsylvania, Maryland, and West Virginia, following roles of increasing responsibility throughout New York State.
Bob began his banking career in 1986 at the former Old Stone Bank in Providence, Rhode Island, where he was an Assistant Treasurer in the Corporate Planning Group.
Bob has extensive community involvement, including serving on the Board of Directors of the South Shore YMCA, South Shore Hospital Foundation, South Shore Chamber of Commerce, The Dimock Center, and The Lowell Plan.
A native of Stoughton, Bob earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Stonehill College and Masters of Business Administration from the University of Rochester. He, his wife Patricia and two young children, Madison and Julian, live in Needham.
