Colleen Ellis has been a practicing graphic designer + illustrator for over twenty-five years. After beginning her career in NYC, she moved back to the Boston area to work for the athletic footwear company Reebok. After many years working in the footwear industry, she returned to university to earn her MFA in graphic design.
Last year her first book was published, ABCing: Seeing the Alphabet Differently (Mark Batty Publisher), which the Boston Globe called "thoroughly inventive." The book is based on the theory of gestalt, introducing the viewer to another way of seeing, a theory discussed in her introductory graphic design courses. Spreads from her book were included in Alphabets: A Miscellany of Letters by David Sacks (Black Dog London).
During the 2010-2011 academic year, Colleen taught in the department of Visual Communication at Dar Al Hekma College in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia-a truly fascinating experience.
