Monday Morning Update

August 15, 2011

Peace of Mind: The website Student.Advisor.com recently asked Domenique Ciavattone '13 for advice on how students can stay organized and healthy while at college. The communication/global issues dual major responded that keeping a neat room is important and that it can help with better grades not to mention more peace of mind. To read Ciavattone's five tips, visit here.

Win-Win: In providing access to expertise and resources, the Center for Nonprofit Management (CNM) offers its popular Resource Room to nonprofit leaders and volunteers. For Sonca Sonmez-Poole, the Executive Director of Mediation Way, which fosters cross cultural understanding, it is an effective option. "Walking into the Resource Room, you're assisted by a team of young, inspiring interns who welcome you with a preselected package of potential grant opportunities and then spend the next couple of hours helping you focus your search for even more resources. For all of us out there trying to change the world for the better, sometimes on a shoestring, the CNM is a great find." For more visit here.

Graphic Design USA, which sponsors the awards, received more than 4,000 entries from across the country and Marketing was honored in the following categories - Admissions Viewbook, Prospective Student Inquiry Brochure, Financial Aid Guide and Prospective Student Search Brochure. The honorees are: Assistant Professor of Sociology Chris Wetzel, Director of Intercultural Affairs Liza Talusan, Brittany Bergquist '13, Todd Broderick '98 and Christopher Ernest '05. "Whether in business or education, all five honorees are engaged in their communities, participating and giving back. Irish Music: Some weeks ago, when we announced we had copies of an album by the Irish music group Girsa, featuring Maeve Flanagan '11, readers flooded us with requests. But, we only had four copies to share, which is why we are pleased to report that Maeve and Girsa will be performing Saturday, August 20 at 8 p.m. at the Irish Cultural Centre in Canton. Thanks to our Irish friends, we have six sets of tickets. First come, first served. Call 508-565-1070. Email mmcgovern@stonehill.edu.
