The National Honor Society for Accounting Majors Coming To Stonehill

May 16, 2011

In late May, Stonehill College received approval of its application to establish a Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the national honor society for accounting majors.  Founded in 1919, Beta Alpha Psi is a nonprofit international honorary and service organization for accounting students at AACSB universities.  Its primary objective is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field.  This includes promoting the study and practice of accounting; providing opportunities for self-development, service and association among members and practicing professionals, and encouraging a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility.

We will be a petitioning chapter for a period of 4 semesters, which means that we have to demonstrate our commitment to the Honor Society by conducting ourselves as if we had a chapter designation.  In the third semester of the process, the national organization will visit the College and make a determination as to our commitment and with success, we will be granted full chapter status.  Qualified students in next year's senior class will be honored in the fall and take the leadership reigns of the organization in cooperation with the Stonehill College Accounting Association.
