IT Help Desk Alert: Email Scam Impacts Stonehill

We continue to experience issues with our email server due to the phishing scam received by many through email almost two weeks ago. The message had the subject of "1 New Message", and a fake link that looked very similar to our webmail login page.

If you responded to this message, or even suspect that you did, you should immediately go our password change service to change your password as soon as possible.

Please follow these best practices for email security:

  • Do not respond to an email you suspect is fake. Refer to the IT web page to find out how to recognize phishing email messages .
  • Do not click on any links contained within an email message until you have verified the link. You can verify a link in Outlook by placing your mouse over the link and confirming that the popup window contains a legitimate web address.
  • NEVER submit any personal or account information via email, or a web page from an email, under any circumstances. Reputable organizations like Stonehill and your bank, will never ask for any personal or account information via email.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact the IT Help Desk at 508-565-4357 (HELP) or email helpdesk@stonehill.edu.

Voicemail Upgrade

The department of Information Technology is in the process of converting departments to our new Unified Messaging system. Unified Messaging brings email, voice mail, calendar and contacts into one centralized location and offers many new features.

Departments will be contacted to discuss plans for migrating their faculty and staff over the next three months. Requirements unique to each department will be assessed for accommodation in the new system. Additionally, a training session is offered just prior to the migration and documentation is provided on the IT web site.

All of the departments in Merkert-Tracy Hall, as well as IT, have been successfully converted. Everyone found that receiving their voicemail messages in their email, in addition to traditional phone access, is easy and useful.

For more information, please refer to the Unified Messaging webpage. If you have any questions, contact the IT Help Desk at 508-565-4357 (HELP) or email helpdesk@stonehill.edu .
