2010 Martin Fellow in the Arts Student Art Contest
December 18, 2009
The Joseph Martin Institute invites artistic submissions related to its 2009-2010 theme — "Global Citizen/Global Community" — for its student Art Contest. The contest is open to all students.
The competition is open to all artistic interpretations and media, from traditional drawing, painting and photography, to 3 dimensional sculpture, installation work and performance.
Honors & Awards
A $500 honorarium will be awarded to one student artist whose work powerfully and uniquely investigates and responds to the theme of "Global Citizen/Global Community". In addition to the honorarium, the winning student will receive the status of Martin Fellow in the Arts.
Two other student artists will receive Honorable Mentions, and their artwork will also be placed on display in The Martin Institute, along with the first place winner.
The Martin Fellow in the Arts will chair a student committee comprised of the students receiving Honorable Mentions to organize the Martin Student Art Contest in 2010-2011. The Martin Fellow will also serve as a Juror for next year's competition.
Rules of Entry
The artwork submitted must be recent, created newly or within the past year. No restrictions apply with regard to scale and media, but work must be suitable for the Stonehill community, and ready to be exhibited in a manner appropriate to the nature of the work.
Artist Statement
All submissions must be accompanied by a 200-300 word artist statement explaining the nature of the piece, its symbolism, inspirations, and why it was meaningful to do.
Criteria
Entries will be evaluated on the basis of originality, imagination, depth-of-thought, suitability for the Stonehill community, and interpretation of the subject.
