Professor Gunawardena's research interests include light-matter interactions, fundamental symmetries, laser applications in biology and physics instrumentation. His current experimental work include exploiting quantum entanglement to perform precision spectroscopic measurements. The goal is to demonstrate resolution beyond what is capable with conventional laser light. He is also working in the area of coherent control, using both continuous wave and femto second lasers to control the evolution of atomic and molecular systems. He is also interested in applications of lasers in investigating and controlling biological systems.
