Stonehill in Galway, Ireland

Stonehill College has a long tradition of students studying at the National University of Ireland, Galway and recently established a direct affiliation with the University.  The Stonehill in Galway, Ireland program is designed to provide a semester- or year-long, first class student experience in a friendly and welcoming environment.  NUI, Galway offers students an extensive choice of courses across five Colleges.  Each year, NUI, Galway welcomes over 1,500 international students, ensuring a culturally rich learning experience for all students. 

Academics

Students at NUI, Galway are expected to enroll in the normal course load of six courses per semester or 30 ECTS.  Students are provided with an advisory session and are given the first two weeks of class to specify their choice of courses.  The final list of courses offered for an academic year is not normally available until the preceding July.  http://www.nuigalway.ie/prospective_students/ushandbook/application_admission.html

Housing and Meals

Stonehill's on-site coordinator will secure accommodations within walking distance to the University.  Each residence consists of self-catering apartments and Stonehill students will live with both Irish and other visiting students.  Students are responsible for all meals.  Each kitchen is fully equipped and students will have easy access to a grocery store.

Application and Admission Procedures

Prior to applying to NUI, Galway, Stonehill student must first complete Stonehill's on-line application.  Upon approval by the Office of International Programs, students will complete NUI, Galway's application.  All NUI, Galway application materials must be submitted to the International Programs Office.  Once the application materials are reviewed, they will be sent to NUI, Galway.   http://www.nuigalway.ie/prospective_students/ushandbook/application_admission.html

Applications for Stonehill in Galway, Ireland Spring 2010 semester are to be submitted to the Office of International Programs by October 9, 2009. 

Galway, Ireland Staff

Stonehill's on-site coordinator is available for students studying at NUI, Galway to NUI, Galway'.  The on-site coordinator will arrange for airport pick-up upon arrival from the U.S., secure housing accommodations, provide guidance on cultural activities and assist with general adjustment to Irish culture.  The  International Student Office at NUI, Galway also ffers a full rnage of student support services., such as Counseling Services, Health Services, Disability Support and social activities.

Travel and Arrival

Stonehill students are responsible for booking and paying for their round-trip flight to Ireland.  Students should plan to arrive at Shannon Airport on a date and time established by Stonehill.  Ground transportation to Galway will be provided to those students who arrive at Shannon Airport on the date and time previously established.  Students arriving at other times are responsible for travel to Galway housing. http://www.nuigalway.ie/prospective_students/ushandbook/application_admission.html

Immigration

U.S. passport holders do not need a visa.  However, all students from outside the EU must register with the local Garda National Immigration Bureau within 30 days of arrival in Ireland.  The following documentation is required for registration:

• Passport
• NUI, Galway student identity card
• Proof of medical insurance
• Evidence of financial support
• Proof of address in Ireland
