Century Club Newsletter: July 2009

Competing for the first time at Division II level, our women's rugby team advanced to the National Finals. Varsity athletics finished in the top three in the Northeast-10 President's Cup for the fifth straight year. Six Stonehill teams participated in NCAA Division II postseason play while both the men's and women's tennis squads appeared in the NCAA Regional Finals. The women's team captured its first-ever NCAA East Regional title as well.
In late June, the College hosted members of 100 members of the Ames Family for a special weekend-long reunion. Of course, Stonehill sits on the grounds of the former Ames estate and this is the third time since 1988 that Ames family members from across the globe have returned to campus for a reunion.
Also in June, as President of Holy Cross Family Ministries, Fr. John Phelan, C.S.C. '70 was at the helm of a Rosary Festival held at W. B. Mason Stadium. More than 1,000 people attended the multi-lingual and multi-cultural religious celebration.
If you haven't visited the College recently, I encourage you to do so, especially to see our new Science Center. Faculty members and students started moving into the new building over the summer and the Science Center will open for classes and labs in August.
Also, I'm happy to note that humorist and contributor to public radio's This American Life Sarah Vowell will give the Chet Raymo Literary Address on Tuesday, October 27. Watch the web at www.stonehill.edu for more information about this event. As always, thank you for your continued support of the College.
Sincerely,
Francis X. Dillon
