How to Feature Your LC on Stonehill.edu

Background & Goals

The Director of General Education and First Year Experience and the Web Editor have partnered to simplify and refine the Communities Feature on Stonehill.edu. The goal is to feature as many Learning Communities on the site as possible to showcase the creativity and dedication of our faculty.

Learning Community Feature Elements

Going forward, each Learning Communities web feature will consist of a single page offering the following elements:

  • Main photo
  • Optional photo gallery
  • Course description
  • Faculty photos/quotes
  • Optional student testimonial
  • Optional student projects
  • Definition of a Learning Community

Getting Started

If you would like your LC to be featured on Stonehill.edu., please refer to the following instructions. You may want to print this page to use as a guide as you work online.

Step 1. Submit a brief statement about teaching this LC.

Your statements will display next to the Faculty photos at the bottom of the feature. (View a mock-up here.)

Step 2. Submit photos from the LC to the Stonehill Flickr Account.

These photos will be used to populate the page's main image and potentially to create a Photo Gallery. See below for information about Flickr and uploading instructions.

How to Upload LC Photos to Flickr

Flickr is a web-based photo archiving tool. Many Flickr accounts are public, the Stonehil College Account is currently password protected and private.

The Web Office has already created Photo Sets on Flickr for each Learning Community to use when submitting photos.

Flickr Instructions

Please print and read the Instructions document if you plan to upload your photos to Stonehill's Flickr Account.

Flickr Log-in Credentials

These will be provided via e-mail to you. If you have not received them via e-mail, please request them from the Web Editor.

What if...?

I have LC photos on CD or DVD?

If you like, please send a copy of your photo CD or DVD to the Web Office (Donahue, Rm 120) marked with the following and we will upload them to Flickr for you.

  • Name, Course Number and Date of LC
  • Names of Professors Involved
  • Geographic Location

I already have LC photos on a photo-sharing site

If you have already organized photos on Flickr or any other photo sharing site, please inform the Web Editor.

Our LC photos are on Facebook

If you would like to submit LC-related photos that are currently accessible via Facebook, please discuss with the Web Editor.

We maintain a blog for our LC

If you maintain a blog for the LC, please email the URL of your LC Blog to editor@stonehill.edu with a brief explanatory note. We will link to the blog from the LC page.

What Happens Next?

After your statement and photos are submitted, the Web Editor will use that information to create a new web feature showcasing your LC.

To enhance your LC profile, you may wish to discuss  gathering a student testimonial and sample student work from the LC.  The Director of General Education is available to consult and guide you through the permissions and publication process.  You will have a chance to review the web feature before it is published.  It would be helpful if you provide up-to-date contact information for the Academic Year and Summer months.

Contact

Please contact the Web Editor or the Director of General Education and the First Year Experience with your questions.  Thank you.
