Finding Books in the Library Catalog
Subject searches are based on Library of Congress Subject Headings. Subject headings refer to specific terms which describe the subject matter of an item. A listing of all Library of Congress Subject Heading is available, in a four volume set, in print format behind the reference desk. Please ask at the reference desk for more information.

- Type in Reformation England in order to find materials relating to the Reformation in England

- A "cross reference" will be given to let you know what the correct subject heading is. For example, if you search for the subject of garbage, a cross reference will display to alert you that Refuse and Refuse Disposal is the correct subject heading. You will be able to click on a link to see the related items.
- There are also "see also" references in the catalog. These references give you additional hints about related subjects. To see an example, do a subject search for Refuse and Refuse Disposal. The first item in the list of results reads Refuse And Refuse Disposal -- 14 Related Subjects. Click on the link to see the fourteen related subject headings.
