Holy Cross Priests on Campus

Holy Cross Priests on Campus

"As disciples of Jesus we stand side by side with all people. Like them we are burdened by the same struggles and beset by the same weaknesses; like them we are made new by the same Lord's love; like them we hope for a world where justice and love prevail. Thus, wherever through its superiors the congregation sends us we go as educators in the faith to those whose lot we share, supporting men and women of grace and goodwill everywhere in their efforts to form communities of the coming kingdom."
-- Constitutions of the Congregation of Holy Cross, 12

Stonehill's Founders and Sponsor

The priests and brothers of the Congregation of Holy Cross founded Stonehill in 1948. Since the congregation's founding by Blessed Basil Moreau education has been one of the congregation's principal works. In fact, the congregation describes its members as educators in the faith in its rule of life called the Constitutions.

Reflections on Being Holy Cross Religious at Stonehill

Fr. James Chichetto, C.S.C.Rev. Jim Chichetto, C.S.C. '64

"Holy Cross is very diverse and international. It allows for a more voluntary accountability among us, which makes us freer to take into account the call of Jesus to all people. It also allows me to go as deep with God as I like.

I couldn't imagine doing what I am doing without being a Holy Cross priest. It has made me wiser, a better listener, more prayerful, hopeful, and globally conscious. It has also helped me to share conflicts and joys in a spirit of love with community members, while disagreeing with them on matters of real concern. You can't beat that for fellowship."

Rev. John DenningRev. John Denning, C.S.C.

"I feel very fortunate to be working at Stonehill College where my lay colleagues as well as my confreres in Holy Cross work together with students to help make the world a more just and compassionate place."

Rev. Mark Cregan, C.S.C. '78

"The Congregation of Holy Cross founded and continues to sponsor Stonehill College as a response to its mission to serve as "educators in the faith."

This mission finds its expression in both the quality of the content provided and the desire to ensure that each student discovers and develops her or his potential in a supportive faith-centered community.

This belief in the education of the whole person guided the vision of Blessed Basil Moreau, Founder of the Congregation of Holy Cross, and continues to animate the Religious who serve at Stonehill."

Rev. Robert KruseRev. Robert Kruse, C.S.C. '55

"The College's emphasis on educating the whole person is remarkably consistent with Father Moreau's insistence that education of the heart is as important as education of the mind."
