Century Club Newsletter: July 2008

Dear Century Club Member:

As we relaunch the Century Club Newsletter within the College's redesigned Web site, it is fitting for our first topic to be about another opportunity to build community through readership -- Stonehill's first-year common reading experience.

Introduced to first-year students during Summer Orientation, the common reading experience book is discussed throughout the fall semester.

In and out of the classroom, first-year students engage the themes of the book through discussion, films, performances, and through a major presentation by the author.

"The program has one purpose: to welcome incoming students into a community of scholarship and faith through serious engagement with a significant contemporary issue or event," said Joseph Favazza, associate vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty.

"The common reading experience sets the tone for the serious intellectual engagement expected of Stonehill students and the free exchange of ideas central to learning." more...
