Directed Study/Independent Research Opportunities
PC 490 Directed Study/PC496 Independent Research
A Directed Study or Independent Research may be conducted in Fall and/or Spring semesters. Written permission of the instructor is required.
These opportunities allow students to work with a professor on his/her current research project, or students may conduct individual research (library or field) on a topic of interest that is not addressed in available classes.
Students are encouraged to approach professors who share similar research interests. Since professors' research varies from semester to semester, it is not practical to list current research topics. Ask your academic advisor which members of the faculty may be accepting Directed Study students to assist in research.
Once you have established who your supervising professor is going to be (during pre-registration), you must obtain the necessary paper work from the Registrar's Office/Web Site. Signatures are required before the end of Add-Drop, so plan ahead.
Research experience is extremely valuable. For students interested in pursuing graduate study, PC 490/PC496 is especially useful since research is an important aspect of graduate programs in Psychology.
