Instructions For Declaring A Double Major
Declaring a double major will give you the opportunity to study two academic areas in considerable depth. It may have strong intellectual and career benefits for you. However, it will limit the number of free elective choices and will require careful planning and consultation with advisors. Before you commit to a double major, make sure that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages for you.
Procedure
- Download major worksheets for the two majors you are considering. (Application link below.)
- Develop a four-year plan using the Stonehill catalogue and the major worksheets.
- Fill out and bring the attached application forms (Four Year Plan and Declaration of Major form) to the Department Chair(s) for the major(s) you are proposing. (ie. If you are already declared in one major then you only need the signature of the Department Chair for the second major. If both majors you are seeking are new you will need signatures from both of the appropriate Chairs.)
- Sign both forms and return both to the Registrar's Office.
- Your request will be processed as soon as possible.
Important Notes
If your majors are in different programs (Liberal Arts, Science or Business), you will receive two degrees. The major you list first will determine the degree you receive (Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Science in Business Administration) at the graduation ceremony.
You may need more than forty (40) courses to complete all requirements. In such cases, you may incur additional tuition charges according to the standard College policy for course overloads. See the catalogue for details.
You must request in writing your request for a Double Major prior to enrollment in your final 10 courses.
