Rev. John Denning, C.S.C.
Vice President for Student Affairs
As Vice President for Student Affairs, Fr. Denning is responsible for the offices of Residence Life, Intercultural Affairs, Health Services, Recreational Sports, Counseling and Testing, and Student Activities. Fr. Denning has served Stonehill since July 2000, first as Director of Campus Ministry, then as Vice President for Mission, and as Vice President for Student Affairs since the spring of 2007. Fr. Denning holds a B.A. from Tulane University and a M.Div. from the University of Saint Michael’s College (University of Toronto). Fr. Denning is currently pursuing an Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
Francis X. Dillon
Vice President for Advancement
As Vice President for Advancement, Francis X. Dillon oversees a staff of 30 professionals and support staff and directs the College’s development, alumni, communications, media relations and external relations programs. Under his leadership, the College raised $59.5 million for the Attaining the Summit comprehensive fundraising campaign, exceeding the targeted goal of $55 million. The campaign supported a new Science Center, academic initiatives, including three academic chairs, scholarships, athletic enhancements, including the W.B. Mason Stadium, and other College priorities. Dillon also led Stonehill’s first capital campaign Securing the Vision, which successfully raised over $23 million. Thanks to that campaign, the College was able to build the architecturally-acclaimed, MacPhaidin Library. A Stonehill alumnus, Dillon holds an M. Ed. in educational administration from Suffolk University. He is active in many community organizations such as United Way of Greater Plymouth County, Metro South Chamber of Commerce, Cardinal Spellman High School, Good Samaritan Medical Center and the Easton-Stonehill Town-Gown Committee.
Dr. Joe Favazza
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
In addition to his duties as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs in 2012-2013, Joe oversees the academic department chairs as well as a team of three academic administrators: the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning; the Director of The Martin Institute and the Director of General Education and First Year Experience.
Jeanne M. Finlayson
Vice President for Finance and Treasurer
As Vice President for Finance and Treasurer, Jeanne M. Finlayson manages the College's budget and endowment. She also has responsibility for overseeing, information technology, auxiliary services, accounting, campus police and facilities management. Ms. Finlayson holds a B.S./B.A from Northeastern University and an M.S. degree from Boston College. Ms. Finlayson has also studied at the Management Institute for Women in Higher Education (HERS). Ms. Finlayson joined Stonehill in September 2006. Before arriving at Stonehill, Ms. Finlayson served as Assistant Vice President for Finance at Wheaton College for over thirteen years and has over 20 years experience in higher education with prior financial management positions at both Newbury College and Bentley College. Ms. Finlayson is actively involved in the National Association of College and University Business Officers and Eastern Association of College and University Business Officers where she has served on various committees
Thomas V. Flynn, Esq.
As General Counsel, Tom Flynn advises the College on legal and risk liability issues and oversees the Human Resources Department. He has served the College in multiple roles since 1998 in the Academic, Advancement, and Student Affairs divisions. He was formerly an attorney with the Springfield firm of Moriarty & Connor, LLC and the United States Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights. In addition to his duties as General Counsel and Clerk, he has served as an instructor in the College’s Education Department and former paralegal studies program. Flynn is a 1993 graduate of Stonehill and a 1996 graduate of Western New England College School of Law.
Rev. James Lies, C.S.C.
Vice President for Mission
As Vice President for Mission at Stonehill College, Fr. Lies is responsible for the Office of Campus Ministry, the Center for Nonprofit Management, and the Farm at Stonehill. Additionally, he is charged with engaging the community in a deeper conversation and consideration of the College’s Mission as a Catholic institution of higher education in the Holy Cross tradition, and how that reality might be more deeply engaged. Fr. Lies has held positions at other institutions of the Congregation of Holy Cross, most recently having served as an associate professor of psychology in the Department of Social & Behavioral Sciences at the University of Portland, where he was also the Executive Director of the Garaventa Center for Catholic Intellectual Life and American Culture. He had previously held positions at the University of St. Thomas (MN) and the University of Notre Dame. The eighth born of ten children, originally from Little Falls, Minnesota, Fr. Lies holds a B.A. in Quantitative Methods from the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota, an M.A. in Psychological Counseling from the University of Notre Dame, an M.Div. from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Minnesota.
Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing
As Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing, Chris Lydon oversees the Office of Admissions, Student Financial Services, and the Marketing Department. He leads the College's efforts in developing and executing enrollment and marketing/branding strategies. Chris has completed twenty-eight years in the college admission and enrollment management profession. Prior to his arrival at Stonehill College, Chris served as the associate vice president for enrollment planning and dean of admission for over fourteen years at Providence College. Chris also previously served as director of admission and financial aid at both La Salle University and the University of Dallas, and as director of admission at Anna Maria College. Chris is a member of the Admission Practices Committee for the New England Association for College Admission Counseling and has previously served on The New England College Board’s Regional Council. He is also a past-president of the National Catholic College Admission Association. Throughout his career, Chris has served on numerous panels at conferences sponsored by the New England and National Associations for College Admission Counseling and National and New England College Board Forums. In June 2011, he also participated on a panel at the Harvard Summer Institute on College Admissions. Chris holds a B.A. in English from Providence College and an M.A. in Professional Communication from La Salle University.
Assistant to the President
As Assistant to the President, Margaret Carr works to develop and implement college-wide initiatives. Ms. Carr also works with the President on development activities and other special projects. She is a member of the President’s Cabinet. Prior to joining Stonehill, Ms. Carr held management position in sales, marketing, public relations and development roles in several area hospitals and non-profit organizations. Ms. Carr holds a B.S. in Communications from Boston University and a M.B.A. from The Carroll School of Management at Boston College. She is currently pursuing an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership at Drexel University.
