Commuter Students

Welcome to Stonehill College’s web page designed just for the commuter student. Whether you commute from home or a local residence off-campus, this page is designed to provide helpful resources and tips to make you’re commute a bit easier. Though most students choose to reside on campus, there are certain perks and privileges solely associated with being a commuter student. Within these pages, you can find different resources and tips for keeping your automobile running efficiently, getting to class on-time, immersing yourself in the local communities, getting involved, and great places off-campus to snack between classes.

Tips for Commuter Students

  • Know your car! All cars have different maintenance requirements, but be mindful of the following:
    • How often you should change your oil, and what type you usually use
    • Is your insurance, registration, license, and inspection up to date?
    • Your tire pressure
    • Your windshield fluid level and antifreeze level
    • Your power steering fluid
    • Your fuel efficiency, as to gauge how far you can travel on a full tank (especially useful to those who live a greater distance away)
    • The type of windshield blades your car requires.
  • Be gracious and friendly to the locals! They know the best places to shop, the cheapest to fill up gas, the best restaurants, and most importantly they hold the College in great regard. Please keep Stonehill’s reputation sterling with the community by respecting noise levels down at your local residence, obey traffic signs, and make an effort to learn more about the local communities.
  • Get involved! There are many opportunities for Commuter Students at Stonehill College to be engaged in campus life. The following are suggestions to get you started:
    • Join Commuter Council. Commuter Council meets once per week and plans events for the Commuter Students, addresses Commuter issues and is a great way to meet new friends. Contact Michael Murteira, Commuter Council President, at mmurteira@student.stonehill.edu for more information.
    • Get to know your professors. Faculty can be a great resource for all students!
    • Don’t come to campus just for your classes! Activities and events are always going on! Stop by Roche Commons or the Commuter Lounge, grab coffee with a classmate, have lunch in the Commons or The Hill, go to the library, apply for an on-campus job, workout at the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex – the possibilities are endless!
    • Check your e-mail. Important campus messages are often sent out through your e-mail. Also, campus wide e-mails are often sent out letting you know about upcoming events.
