Ways to Give
To make a gift to Stonehill College, please choose from the options below. Thank you in advance for your generosity to Stonehill.
cash or check | credit cards | securities | annuities | matching gifts | gift planning
Cash or Check
Historically, a cash gift has been the easiest and most direct way to give. Recent changes in the tax law mean that only those taxpayers that itemize deductions are able to secure a charitable tax deduction for a gift of cash. Make checks payable to Stonehill College and mail checks to Stonehill College, Advancement Division, 320 Washington Street, Easton, MA 02357.
Credit Cards
Stonehill is pleased to accept credit card donations online, by phone and through the mail. We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express.
Online: To make a donation online, select the "Make a Gift Now " link, choose your fund, and fill out the secure online form.
By Telephone: To make a credit card gift by phone, please call the Advancement Division at 508-565-1341. Please have your credit card number and expiration date ready, along with a daytime phone number where you may be reached.
By Mail: To make a credit card (or check) gift via mail, please send your credit card number, expiration date, a daytime telephone number and instructions on your gift intent to: Stonehill College, Advancement Division, 320 Washington Street, Easton, MA 02357.
Securities
Securities may be transferred to Stonehill via: Electronic Transfer, Mailing Certificates, Hand Delivery. For information regarding the valuation of stocks and bonds or gift crediting, please contact the Office of Development at 508-565-1341 or email dsmith@stonehill.edu.
Electronic Transfer: If your stock is held by a broker, notify the broker that you wish to make a gift of securities to Stonehill College. Brokers need written authorization from you before they can make the transfer. Be sure to tell them the name of the stock that you want to transfer, the number of shares, and where you would like your gift to be designated when it reaches Stonehill. Once you have authorized the transfer, ask your broker to contact Stonehill's Office of Development at (508) 565-1341. Our office will give your broker complete transfer instructions. *NOTE: Even if you have donated securities in the past, be sure you or your broker contacts the Office of Development BEFORE the transfer is made. The transfer instructions can change from year to year. A quick phone call from you or your broker to verify the current instructions can help prevent any transfer problems.
Mailing Stock Certificates: If your securities are not held by a broker (see Electronic Transfer if they are), then you can either mail or hand deliver the certificates directly to the Office of Development. If you are mailing, send your unendorsed certificate(s) and a cover letter (including your name, address and purpose of the gift) in one envelope. In a second envelope, send a signed, signature guaranteed stock power. We recommend that you use registered mail to forward your certificates and stock power. Your local bank can provide stock power forms.
Hand Delivery: Certificates may be given to a College Development Officer or delivered to the Office of Development. *NOTE: Please DO NOT mail endorsed certificates! Once the certificate is endorsed, it is legal tender and can be exchanged by anyone. We recommend that certificates not be sent to a transfer agent for registering in the College's name. This procedure is unnecessary and results in needless delays of the transfer. Our mailing address is: Stonehill College Office of Development 320 Washington Street Easton, MA 02357
Annuities
Charitable Gift Annuity: The Charitable Gift Annuity is the simplest life income plan offered by Stonehill. With a one-page contract, Stonehill agrees to make guaranteed fixed payments to the donor (and often a second beneficiary) for life at a rate determined by the donor's age. A portion of the income is tax-free.
Deferred Gift Annuity: The Deferred Gift Annuity is designed to appeal to those people who could benefit from an immediate charitable tax deduction and who wish to increase future income. This type of gift allows the donor to transfer cash, securities, and sometimes-tangible property or real estate to the College in exchange for a fixed annual income starting at a later date (usually after retirement). The minimum gift value is $10,000.
Matching Gifts
Arranging a corporate matching gift is an easy way for Stonehill alumni, parents and friends to increase the impact of their personal contributions to the College. By taking advantage of a company's matching gift benefit, a donor can generate an additional gift which may double or triple his or her own contribution without any further obligation from the donor.
Matching Gift Page Instructions: Each company has its own guidelines for employees to follow. Most matches are initiated by a form submitted to Stonehill by the donor, or by a phone call to the company from the donor. To find out if your company has a matching gift program and learn the specifics of requesting a match from your company, please contact your human resources department. They may also provide you with the required form. Then, simply fill in the necessary information and send it to Stonehill with your gift. The gift and form will be verified by the College, and the form will be returned to your company, which will then issue a matching gift contribution to Stonehill.
Common Questions
1. How do I know if my company has a matching gift program? Your company's human resources department can tell you if your company has such a program. Or, you may contact us at (508) 565-1341, and we will also be able to confirm whether or not your employer offers this benefit.
2. What does my company need from me before they'll send in a matching gift? Because each employer has specific requirements of its employees, the best source for instructions on how you should proceed is the Human Resources department at your company. Your company may ask that you complete its form and mail it to Stonehill along with your gift. Or your company may need a phone call from you once you have made your donation. While these two ways are the most common, your company's specific policy may have different requirements.
3. May I restrict my matching gift? Your employer has guidelines to determine whether a matching gift may be restricted or not. In some cases, employers require that the matching gift be directed to the same place as the donor's gift, and in other cases, employers require that a matching gift be left unrestricted. The College must follow your company's wishes, including whether or not a donor may restrict a matching gift.
4. I have more questions about matching gifts. How do I get in touch with someone who can help me? In addition to your company's human resources department, many businesses have a Corporate Agent who is a company employee. The role of the Corporate Agent is to encourage company employees who are Stonehill alumni, parents and friends to become involved in the Matching Gifts Program. You may also contact us here at the College by calling (508) 565-1341. We are available to answer any questions you might have regarding matching gifts.
