Liza Talusan, Director

Liza A. Talusan is the Director of Intercultural Affairs and has diverse experience in both teaching and educational administration. Ms. Talusan earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Child Development from Connecticut College, her Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration and Student Affairs from New York University, and her Human Resources Certificate from Stonehill College. In addition to her experience in residence life, student activities, multicultural advising, and student affairs, Liza has taught at the K-12 level, coordinated teaching and learning programs, and ran outreach programs for students in academic need. Liza has gained unique insight into the Stonehill community having served as the Assistant Dean of Admissions and Enrollment, focusing on Multicultural Recruiting (2004-2005) and as the Associate Director of Career Services (2005-2007). Ms. Talusan volunteers in the non-profit sector through her work as the former Co-Chair for the Board of Directors for ASPIRE (Asian Sisters Participating in Reaching Excellence), as an active family speaker for Camp Sunshine, and as the founder of Retinoblastoma New England (RbNE).  She serves on the Alumni Board of Connecticut College. Ms. Talusan is currently a doctoral student at the University of Massachusetts at Boston.

 

 Working with key administrative offices, faculty, and focusing on junior and senior students, Ms. Talusan's work is rooted in learning outcomes, educational theory, identity development and needs assessment in order to create and support a culture of inclusiveness at Stonehill. She is a wife, mother of three, and an active writer and blogger on topics ranging from parenting to race to cancer.


Jacqueline C. Guzmán , Assistant Director

Jacqueline C. Guzmán is the Assistant Director of Intercultural Affairs. She completed her undergraduate degree in Business Management with a concentration in Entrepreneurship at the University of Connecticut , and her Master of Arts in Higher Education and Student Affairs also at the University of Connecticut. She had the opportunity to serve as the Graduate Assistant at the Puerto Rican/ Latin American Cultural Center, one of the five cultural centers at UConn. She served as the Program Coordinator for the Mentoring, Educating, and Training for Academic Success (METAS) Program, a program geared to assisting incoming Latino freshmen and transfer students with their transition to college and campus life. Ms. Guzmán has had a diversity of experience within Higher Education through internships with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Department of Student Activities- Program Office, and the Department of Career Services.

 

At Stonehill, Jacqueline focuses on planning monthly programs designed to raise awareness and education about diversity and inclusion. She works closely with the ALANA Brothers and Sisters Leadership Program, the Diversity Committee of Student Government, and focuses academic and social advisement to first and second year students. Jacqueline also runs the first year student discussion group, "Leadership Through Diversity."

 


Randall L. Phyall, Coordinator

Randall Phyall has a dual report within the Office of Residence Life and the Office of Intercultural Affairs. He serves as the Assistant Area Coordinator in the Colonial Courts with traditional live-in responsibilities while also coordinates and supports diversity programming within the residence halls. Mr. Phyall works closely with the Resident Directors and Resident Assistants to provide quality programming and address diversity issues specific to residential living and learning. Mr. Phyall is  a graduate of Dickinson College where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and from Hofstra University where he earned a Master of Science in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (Higher Education Administration). Mr. Phyall brings a wealth of experience in curriculum design, lesson planning and facilitating workshops. He has served as a teaching assistant in the Westbury Public School system and a tutor/mentor with Teach Baltimore Americorps where he focused on multicultural competencies, effective teaching and youth empowerment. A member of the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society, Mr. Phyall contributes to our Stonehill community with his academic talents, his experience with collegiate level football, and support of community engagement.

 

Janice McGovern, Office Manager

Mrs. McGovern is the backbone and glue of our office. She is the friendly face you see when you walk in, and the person who creates the warm and inviting atmosphere in our office! She loves meeting students, talking with them, and learning about all the great diversity each person adds to our community. Mrs. McGovern is an avid painted, dog lover, mom, wife, and grandmother!
