Why Study Abroad?

Over the past decade, the number of U.S. students studying abroad has more than doubled. At Stonehill, 40% of the Class of 2009 spent at least one semester abroad.

There are several compelling ways that you may enhance your academic experience and increase your professional capital with a study abroad experience.

  • Immerse yourself in another culture, perhaps another language, and improve your intercultural proficiency.
  • Take courses which can be better comprehended in a particular location (e.g., art history in Florence or Irish government in Galway).
  • Challenge yourself to develop leadership, adaptability, self-reliance, and critical thinking skills which will strengthen your career prospects.
  • Travel extensively and cheaply during class holidays and before/after your studies.
