Relay for Life raises over $47,000 for cancer research
by Lindsay Briggs, News Editor

On Feb. 2 the Sports Complex hosted to the Relay for Life event. Over 385 people participated in several activities that went throughout the night.

“The event was better than I could have expected as far as money raised, enthusiasm throughout the night, and positive feedback,” said senior co-president Adrienne Schur.

The American Cancer Society set a goal for the event to raise about $41,000, based on last year’s figures. This year that goal was surpassed by over $6,000.

“That is an amazing amount for such a small community,” said Schur.

As of Feb. 13, the most recent figure shows that $47,405 was raised, according to Schur.

“But people can still donate until Aug. 31,” said Schur.

People formed teams, ranging from eight to 15 people. One person from each team was responsible for walking on the track and took turns for the whole 12 hours. There were theme laps, which included Disney, country and Stonehill pride themes. The Chapel Choir, the Chieftones, and the Girls from the Hill all performed to help pass the time.

Junior Maria White went to the event as a member of the Chapel Choir and the Girls from the Hill.

“I think it went very well,” said White. “I walked a little with my friends who were on teams. I feel that it’s very important that Stonehill has it every year, it really brings people together.

One-hundred days ‘til graduation?  Impossible!

Two-hundred students from the class of 2007 gathered on school buses Friday, Feb. 9 to enjoy Shear Madness and The Hard Rock Café in downtown Boston, celebrating their final months at Stonehill College.
